Making Our Own Little Chapters

Yesterday, when Cres came home from work he was really pissed because of some unfair crap that happened at his job. He vented for a bit and then we went with his roomie, Bernie, to get some delicious scallion pancakes with egg in the middle from some street vendor. I am slowly but surely trying to learn as much mandarin as possible. We hung out on the home front for a bit and I took a nap before we went to Sway's apt.

We went to Sway's and I met her amazing roomie Amanda and then Jeremy and Max came over, two of my other new and incredible friends. We danced, put on fake eyelashes, made grilled cheese, drank beers, got dressy, watched vids, took a billion pictures and videos, hung out on the roof, danced some more, ate Sway's delicious homemade dumplings, listened to really great music....its nights like these that I can forget all the reasons why life sucks sometimes and just be happy.

P.S.-We made plans to dress up like pirates and go shrimping.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head

Last night I met up with Dan, my great friend who lived in Montreal for a while. He just moved to Halifax for his masters in this Fisherman Science program. He is so multifaceted. Quite possibly the smartest guy I know. Anyway, Carrie slept over last night and this morning we got bagels before I dropped her off this morning. Her car got broken into last night. Right out side of her apt. Kind of ridiculous. I mean, they even took her contacts and mix CD's. I think maybe it was someone who knew her, cause why would someone take stuff like that, which is SO personal. I mean, I understand taking someone's gps or ipod, but not that stuff.

Anyway, I had a meeting with my new boss today. I finished all my paperwork and I am pretty much ready to start working, just as soon as the Nov semester begins. I got the textbook for one of the classes I am teaching today. Pretty stoked. I also got to catch up with my friend Karyn (who got me the job) for a bit. I am really excited to start teaching.

After that, I went to Kim's for a bit of band practice. Everything seems to be coming along nicely. After that, I went to Jen and Will's to plan Jen and I's circle line cruise. She is taking me on one for my grad/birthday. We also went to her job for drinks. I can't believe the guido's she works with. I would never be able to deal with that.

I am exhausted. They must be having some sort of Winona Ryder sort of marathon lately on encore because movies starring her are all that seems to be on. Oh well.

What I Really Meant

And you probably thought I 'accidentally' posted that last one. Here is proof I didn't.

Come Together

Tonight I went to Dani and Russ' wedding. It was lovely and I had SO much fun. Back track a bit. This morning I woke up and lounged around for a bit and then come noon I had appointed a lunch date with the fabulous Dr.Rogers (aka my scholastic role model). We discussed this summer, my future as a scholar, assignments I should give to future students and ways of commanding authority in the classroom. Nathalia truly is an amazing woman who I aspire to use as a figure of excellence in my pedagogical life. She kept telling me how proud she is of me and that really boosted my ego to a lofty and sky high position, thus starting my day on an incredible note.

Come 2 O'clock, Lauren came over and we started to pre-game/get ready for the wedding. We bonded and laughed and had a jolly ol' time. Later on, Carrie, Erika and PJ showed up and we continued to prepare for the upcoming nuptials.

I can't believe what good looking friends I have. Sometimes I feel like I don't fit in and dont belong, at least in a traditional way, or something. It's really weird. Maybe I just don't see people the way other people see them. I don't know.

The wedding was short and sweet and beautiful. At the reception, I danced until my shoes and girdle came off and tore up the dance floor. I couldn't imagine having a funner time. I don't know if it was the constant stream of champagne running through my veins or the pure awesomeness radiating off of the people I was there with, but table 5 a.k.a. the corner table, was the most kick-ass table at the party. We ordered a round of shots from our waitress and kept the party going on the dance floor more than any other table. Lets just say, if the tables at the wedding had to team up and capture a flag, break a red rover chain, or have a color-war, table 5 would have kicked all the other team's asses.

I love my life.

Save The Last Dance.

Ok. So I went out last night. It was my friend Nick's birthday. We went to this party at McKibbin lofts. We went there for new years and it was floor after floor of crazy party space. Last night it was just one floor. There were kids dancing and a DJ and some cool art projected on the walls to go with the music. There was also a lost of cool modern/trash art on the walls. I was sitting around for a while watching the hipster kids dance, making fun of them, thinking to myself 'this is today's youth'. I felt conflicted like I didn't want to be a part of this generation anymore, but I wanted more than anything to fit in and forget all about my scruples. I mean, I was fitting in. I do fit in. I occasionally thought of the people in my classes and if they attend parties like this.

This morning I woke up with a mean hang over. Normally I wake up early and get straight to work, but right now I am procrastinating and 'Save the Last Dance' is on. During the high school scenes I keep thinking about my potential job at teach for America and how terrified I am of the kids. I shouldn't be like that. I gotta be a lion tamer (in the words of a previous TFA corps member).
