The Lost Week.

Due to jetlag and a busy schedule, I have decided that I am/was too tired to blog for an entire week. I apologize for the inconvenience. I was taking a vacation from life, a vacation from blogging was well needed.

I am about to leave for Florida with Boppy, Derek and Patti. I am pretty freakin excited, but mostly tired. Pictures and events soon to follow.

Tony's Birthday

The 28th marked the 5th year that tony has been in heaven. I woke up, anticipating practice with Kim but then we wound up going to the beach. Which was incredible and just what i needed. Kim left for Seattle today. We had a lovely day at the beach, or at least a couple of great hours. Then I went off to Tony's birthday. It was good to see some people I hadn't seen in a while. I ate some pretty great food and let a balloon go with a note on it, like I do every year. Mine is the purple one in the pic.

After that, I went to go pick up my phone which I accidentally left in Kim's car. I picked it up and failed in finding other plans. Instead, I came home and got into a fight with my mom. A stupid fight. An avoidable fight. Over something so very quotidian. Ugh. I feel like a big doodie.

Convocation

This morning I woke up mad early to go to my convocation for M.A. candidates. It was a long and boring ceremony, but there were some high points during good speeches that almost brought a tear to my eye.

They served champagne afterward at the reception, with strawberries and creme dip. It was fabulous. We stood outside in the beautiful weather on the lovely campus drinking and smuggling bottles of champagne. It was glorious. Tomorrow, another one of these assemblies will ensue for the commencement ceremony.

After our strawberries and champagne, my mom, Carrie, and Katherine and I all went to amsterdam to get some grub. We had a lovely lunch and then came home and napped. Woke up around 8:30 and headed out to SEA for dinner. Yummy.

On a different note, I just found out last night that Kristen is moving out during the first week of July. It makes me kind of sad, because I really love living with her and spending time with her. She truly is an amazing person. It is really awesome that I am so lucky to have gotten to live with someone who I get along with on so many levels. Someone I can go to art galleries with, do topless collages and take ambien with. I hope my next roomie is as cool, however that is a really tall order.

The Little Mermaid

Yesterday after work Boppy came and met up in Brooklyn and we went out for Thai food and then we saw The Little Mermaid. The show made me cry a lot, and then when I looked over at mom, she was crying too because I was crying, or vice versa.

This movie played an important and influential role in my childhood, and boppy's momhood. When I was a wee little girl I always thought I would grow up to become a mermaid, simply because I wanted to so bad. Every beach we went to, I would find an 'Ariel rock' to perch on and sing "Part of your world!', like Ariel did when she sang it while the waves crashed all around her. My mom played Ursula 5 times in community theatre while I was growing up. So on top of watching the movie all the time, I would always go to my mom's rehearsals, and once I even got to play Jetsam and one of the sister mermaids.

The play was really good and left me reminiscing.

Mother's Day

was fabulous. I woke up and came home from Dani's and lounged around until it was time to get dinner at Four. I went with Boppy, Derek and Patti. The food was beautiful and delicious, however the company was even better. I am really excited that my brother has such a great girl in his life. It's like i got a brand new sister and she's cool as all hell. Wait, that phrase may not have fir there...cause hell is hot, not cool...what I am trying to say is that Patti is awesome, and i couln't pick anyone better for my bro, or to be a new addition to my family.

After dinner, me and boppy finished watching Sibyl. What a crazy story. I can't believe that actually happened to that poor little girl. It really makes me thankful that my mom didn't lock me in a trunk, trip me down the stairs, or give me cold water enemas every morning. LOL how mother's day appropriate.

A Panoply

I did a lot of things yesterday. It was a long day, in the colloquial sense. It started out with a lovely breakfast with Boppy at Mundays. I got the most delicious challah french toast and we talked about...well...everything. Then she drove me to the train and I came back to BK.

Carrie was at the apt when I got back, we spent a bit of time together, then I had to shower and get some work done. I tried to evade most of my work, as usual. Then at 4 I hopped on a train to Columbia to meet with my anthro group. We had to do some fieldwork for out upcoming paper on infrastructure and technology. We took a cab, using it for its mini TV to locate a restaurant to eat dinner at. We observed the mobile TV as a way of observing infrastructure, then we got off in times square and walked to a restaurant. The food was way too spicy, but I got 2 glasses of wine, so I was happy. I feel like I fit in with my group, however they are all undergrads and I believe, at a different stage in their lives than me. It's weird. I mean, I was never into college life in undergrad and they're all up in it. I guess maybe it has something to do with living on campus and being away from home. But I think, even if I did do that in undergrad, I wouldn't have had the same points of excitement and whatnot. Whatever, I guess we're all different, and I can't pinpoint anyone into any specific group. The guy in my group was talking about all the countries he has visited, I was amazied. He's been practically everywhere, and he's only 21.

After dinner, I went to meet up with Blair at the New Museum. I got lost on the train and wound up in south BK. I finally got there around 8 and we checked out the exhibits. They were rather underwhelming. Usually, the New Museum has really innovative, unique stuff, with a great deal of sculpture. Of the 4 floors we checked out, 2 were solely films, both of which I was not terribly interested in. I suppose the most interesting part of this exhibit was the top floor, or information center, where they had the room set up like a detainment camp in Israel. There were sheets pinned to the ceiling, so that peering in seemed more personal and voyeuristic. There were food items in the pantry, messily strewn about, toys sprawled out on the floor, crushed food on bunk beds and a TV played music and video of their culture. (see picture above)

After the museum, Blair and I came back to my apt and watched an episode of 'the Wire' . I was having trouble keeping my eyes open. It is one of those shows where you have to pay really close attention. I don't know how into it I can get. Hopefully it picks up soon. Next I made hot chocolate and Blair and I talked and he played guitar and I played him some recordings. He is a really good listener and is really open minded. I feel like he's so far above me in some ways. Like, even if I tried, I wouldn't be able to not like him because he's so damn nice. Later we watched 'I <3 huckabees' and quickly fell asleep. The heat was on full throttle in the apt and even with 2 windows open I was sweating my ass off.

All in all, a good day.

Mom's Birthday!

Yesterday was Boppy's birthday. We got some dinner with Kate and then Boppy and I went to Shrek the Musical. It was really cute. It was a lot like the movie, a bit sillier though, hence, musical. Pinocchio was the best part. He reminded us of Stewart from SNL. After the show Ma and I came back to my place and hung with the roomies.

This morning I put up new window treatments and a new book shelf! My room looks really classy now...well sorta...minus the cat hair all over everything.
